Making Simple Comparisons

Comparative yapısı, Türkçede “daha” ifadesinin karşılığıdır. Genel olarak tek heceli sıfatların
sonuna “-er” ve çok heceli sıfatların başına “more” getirilerek oluşturulur.
Examples:
➦ Mercury is smaller than Mars and Jupiter. (Merkür, Mars ve Jüpiter’den daha küçüktür.)
➦ I think natural satellites are more harmful than man-made satellites for our planet. (Bence
gezegenimiz için doğal uydular insan yapımı uydulardan daha zararlı.)
Superlative yapısı, Türkçede “en” ifadesinin karşılığıdır. Tek heceli sıfatlarda başına “the” ve
sonuna “-est” eki getirilir. Çok hecelilerde ise sıfatın başına “the most” getirilir.
Examples:
➦ Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system. (Jüpiter güneş sistemimizdeki en büyük ge-
zegendir.)
➦ She thinks Venus is the most beautiful planet because it shines. (O, Venüs’ün en güzel geze-
gen olduğunu düşünüyor çünkü parıldıyor.)

Düzensiz sıfatların (irregular adjectives) comparative ve superlative biçimleri şöyledir:
