* Geçmişte yapılmakla birlikte günümüzde artık yapılmayan alışkanlıkları, tekrarlanan eylemleri,
kalıcı yani değişmez durumları ifade ederken "used to" yapısı kullanılır. Olay geçmişte meydana
geldiği için “use” kelimesinin past (geçmiş) hâli olan “used” kullanılır. Bu yapının kullanım şekilleri
şöyledir:
Affirmative Sentences (Olumlu Cümleler)
Subject + used to + Verb + Object.

œ Examples:
» I used to drink milk every night when I was a child.
» People used to watch the shadow plays in my country in the past.
» My sister and I used to play with our dolls when we were kids.
Negative Sentences (Olumsuz Cümleler)
Subject + didn't use to + Verb + Object.

œ Examples:
» There didn’t use to be any traffic jam in Istanbul fifty years ago.
» John didn't use to go to school on foot when he was at elementary school.
» Girls didn't use to continue their educational lives when they finished primary school.
Interrogative Sentences (Soru Cümleleri)
Did + subject + Verb + Object?

œ Examples:
» Did you use to play football when you were at high school?
» Did people use to respect the elderly in the past?
» Did they use to live in a small town when they were young?
* "used to" yapısı ile "Wh- questions" oluşturulurken "Wh-" soru kelimeleri cümle başına getirilir
ve "did" yardımcı fiili ondan sonra kullanılır.
œ Examples:
A: What did women in villages use to do in the past?
B: They used to work in fields with men.
