Hello! My name is Yoshiko. I’m from Hong Kong. My favorite
festival is Chinese New Year. In my country, it is also called the
Spring Festival. It’s the longest holiday in China and also it's the
most important celebration of the year. It usually lasts 15 or 16

days. We buy presents, decoration materials, food and clothes to

celebrate this festival. Every street, building and house is decorated with red during the
celebrations. It’s a tradition that every family cleans their house throughly to sweep away ill
fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Chinese New
Year is a busy time for everyone in my family. My parents organize
family and friends reunion dinners. My mum makes the traditional
turnip cake which is the one that I don’t want to miss during this

special occasion. We watch dragon and
lion dances and fireworks shows in
streets during the celebrations.
“Red packet” is a famous tradition in Chinese New Year celebrations.
Married people put some money in a small red envelope and give it
to the younger generations. During the festival days, I collect my “red packets” and then I

buy something I like and need.
